Can Diatomaceous Earth be taken internally?
Diatomaceous earth is found all over the earth’s crust; it is derived from fossilized diatoms, which are also called hard shelled algae and plankton. Diatoms are found in fresh water lakes and in oceans. Over millions of years, the skeletons of plankton collect to form the crust of the earth. DE is mined out of rock quarries, and milled into a powder that can be used for almost any purpose.
Diatomaceous earth is used for many purposes, from an insecticide, to cleansers, to food additives to beauty aids. There are many health advantages to taking diatomaceous earth into our bodies. Many people take food grade DE in water to remove toxins out of the body. DE, also known as diatomite and kieselgur, is largely made up of nutrients that the human body needs, such as calcium, iron, silicon, magnesium and sodium.
Because diatomaceous earth is a natural pesticide, it is good to be taken into the digestive tract to clean the colon. Diatomaceous earth has a texture of talcum powder, but in fact, the microscopic particles are razor sharp and will cut into the bodies of parasites that happen to live in the digestive tract. The skin of intestinal parasites is very tender, and when they come into contact with the sharp particles of diatomite, their bodies tear open and the parasites die. DE is very good to take internally. Most people, who take it, take about a tablespoon with water or juice. The substance promotes healthy digestion and normal bowel function.
Most people, when they get older begin to have some problems with their bones; sometimes it is due to inadequate absorption of calcium. Diatomaceous earth may be taken to replace some of the minerals lost with aging. Diatomaceous earth is also taken internally to help prevent the onset of osteoporosis. Anyone who is concerned about osteoporosis should speak to their medical doctor or nutritionist about taking food grade DE.
Diatomaceous earth is good for just about everything, including for lowering blood pressure and cholesterol levels. Dr. Ray Shelian reports that a study of DE was done on 19 people over a 12 week period in Innsbruck, Austria at the Institute of Medical Chemistry and Biochemistry. The study showed that over time there was a significant reduction of serum cholesterol. DE is taken for many other things besides blood pressure and cholesterol. It reportedly supports the immune system and helps to keep the lungs and connective tissues strong and healthy.
